"Our son Yori was a bright, energetic and beautiful boy. We were playing in the pool and didn't notice he had gone under. In the blink of an eye, quickly and quietly...our lives changed forever. Though first responders were able to resuscitate Yori and get him to the hospital, he was pronounced brain dead on September 1st, 2018. This tragedy has profoundly impacted us, our three other children, and our local community. We're doing work around drowning prevention as well as protocol change around how to treat those with a severe loss of oxygen.
This scenario happens all too often, but doesn't have to. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1-4 years old and WE CAN do something about it. Prevention is KEY, but finding ways to help children who have hypoxic brain injuries is POSSIBLE.
You can find out more about Yori's continued story here. We are working with top researchers at Seattle Children's Hospital and funding imperative research to ensure that children and their parents have a fighting chance under these circumstances."
