CONSTANT SUPERVISION

Always be vigilant.

It's not a LACK in supervision, but a LAPSE in supervision that puts children at risk. Use touch supervision for non-swimmers in the pool. Stay within arms reach.
1
Designated a water watcher.

Take 15 minute shifts, with no distractions, scanning the pool for a swimmer in trouble.
2
FENCES
3
Pools should have a 4-sided fence, at least 4-feet high, with a self-latching AND self-closing gate.
3
ALARMS
4
Use a personal water immersion alarm for your child.
Install a surface disturbance alarm for your pool.

SKILL THE CHILD

Choose a swim program that teaches your child to roll on their back and float independently.

Lifejackets on open water
8
Life jackets are a must on open water. 80% of drowning fatalities while boating for children under 14 could have been prevented with use of a life jacket.
8
Our Goal is to ensure that parents and caregivers know that drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in children under the age of four and drowning is preventable.
VITAL LAYERS OF PROTECTION
1. Constant supervision
3. Pool fence with a self-latching gate
4. Personal water immersion alarms
5. Learn CPR
6. Removal or self-locking of dog doors
The layer of protection "skill the child" means to equip your child with the skill to be able to roll onto their back and float unassisted and
independently. This is the self rescue survival skill that may save your child's life should the other layers of protection break down.
